1. Only collect general waste in OFFICIAL sacks
Collections will still be weekly, but in order to encourage recycling, each household of up to 4 people will only be given 80 official sacks for general waste to be collected in PER YEAR. Waste put out in any other type of sack or container will not be collected. Additional sacks may be purchased, but the council will deter this ‘as a general practice’. Households of 5 will receive 100 sacks and households of 6 and above people will get 120 sacks.

2. Collect black box recycling every week
The current free kirbside service of collecting waste paper in one black box and plastic / metal in the other black box on alternate weeks with green waste will be change to a weekly black box collection. No other changes will be made to the recylicing system, so glass, silver foil, batteries, shoes, Tetrapaks etc will continue to be collected at recycling banks at supermarkets and other locations around the borough.

3. Green Waste collections to be chargeable
From April 2012, the current free green bag system which covers part of the borough will end. In it’s place all borough residents will have the option of paying an annual charge of around £60 per year for a 2 weekly collection of a brown wheelie bin of green waste or the option of buying 75 litre compostable sacks for green waste at price commensurate with the annual charge.
